Kaizer Chiefs have confirmed that tickets for the highly anticipated Soweto Derby against Orlando Pirates are officially sold out.
Amakhosi host their arch-rivals at the iconic FNB Stadium on 28 February in what promises to be a blockbuster Betway Premiership clash — and supporters wasted no time securing their seats.
Tickets went on sale at midday on Tuesday and were completely sold out within 24 hours, according to a statement released by the club on Wednesday.
High Stakes at the Top
This season’s first league derby carries added significance, with Chiefs and Pirates both firmly in the title race. Amakhosi currently sit at the summit of the Betway Premiership table, while Pirates occupy third place — separated by just four points, with both sides still having a match to play before the derby.
With momentum and bragging rights on the line, the outcome could have a major impact on the championship race.
Chiefs also head into the fixture buoyed by strong domestic form and an impressive run in the TotalEnergies CAF Confederation Cup, further heightening expectations for a thrilling encounter at the 94,000-capacity venue.
New Ticketing System Under Spotlight
The match will also serve as a major test for Stadium Management South Africa (SMSA) and its new ticketing system.
The previous Soweto Derby in 2024 was marred by chaos after more than 100,000 spectators reportedly gained entry into the stadium, leaving many legitimate ticket holders stranded outside. Authorities will be under pressure to ensure a smooth and secure matchday experience this time around.
Club Urges Early Arrival
In their full statement, Chiefs encouraged supporters who have secured tickets to arrive early and enjoy pre-match activations and sponsor entertainment around the stadium precinct.
Fans arriving early will also stand a chance to win prizes on the day.
Supporters without tickets have been urged to watch the game from home with family and friends, with the club stressing that security will be on high alert and advising against gathering near the stadium.
With the tickets gone and anticipation at fever pitch, all eyes now turn to 28 February for another chapter in South African football’s greatest rivalry.
