Sekhukhune vs Stellenbosch: Tight Rivalry Meets New-Look Stellies

Sekhukhune United and Stellenbosch FC renew a closely contested rivalry on Tuesday night at Peter Mokaba Stadium, with recent history suggesting another tight encounter. Six of their last ten meetings have ended in draws, with two wins apiece.

Sekhukhune enter the match in a far stronger position, sitting third in the Betway Premiership and firmly in the title conversation. Stellenbosch, by contrast, have slipped to 14th after 14 matches and will be led for the first time by new head coach Gavin Hunt, following Steve Barker’s surprise mid-season exit.

The fixture carries added significance after Stellies finished above Babina Noko in each of the last two seasons, denying them higher league positions and continental qualification. Sekhukhune, now under Eric Tinkler, will be eager to assert themselves, especially after being knocked out of the MTN8 by Stellenbosch earlier this campaign.

Sekhukhune have strengthened during the break with the additions of Lebo Phiri, Amede Tidiane Diomandé and former Stellenbosch striker Lehlohonolo Bradley Mojela, adding further intrigue to the contest.

Prediction: Sekhukhune to win or draw, given their form and home advantage.
