Pyramids FC have officially reached the summit of African football. The Egyptian giants were honoured as CAF Men’s Club of the Year at the 2025 CAF Awards ceremony in Rabat, Morocco, on Wednesday evening—an accolade that caps off a historic golden season for the ambitious Cairo-based club.
Their rise has been nothing short of meteoric. Pyramids finally realised their long-term project by lifting the 2024/25 CAF Champions League, the first time the club has ever captured Africa’s most prestigious club title. The achievement was made even sweeter when they added the CAF Super Cup, completing a continental double that signalled their arrival among Africa’s true heavyweights.
Their Champions League journey was defined by resilience and big-match temperament. In the knockout rounds, they stunned Moroccan giants AS FAR, overturning a tricky tie with a commanding 4-1 home victory to win 4-3 on aggregate. The semi-final brought a fierce test against South Africa’s Orlando Pirates, where Pyramids edged a tense second leg 3-2 to book their place in the final.
The title showdown was an all-Egyptian–South African affair against defending PSL champions Mamelodi Sundowns. Pyramids left Pretoria with a crucial late goal to level the tie, before sealing the trophy in Cairo with a dramatic 2-1 victory that sent their supporters into delirium.
Their continental momentum continued in the CAF Super Cup, where they edged Moroccan champions and Confederation Cup winners RS Berkane 1-0 to secure a second major honour in the same year.
Domestically, Pyramids narrowly missed out on a treble after falling to Zamalek in the Egypt Cup final, but their overall campaign remains one of the most successful in Egyptian football history.
With the CAF Champions League group stage set to resume this weekend, the reigning champions will now begin the defence of their crown—armed with confidence, pedigree and a growing reputation as Africa’s new powerhouse.
