Kaizer Chiefs continued their steady climb up the Premiership standings with a hard-fought 1–0 victory over Lamontville Golden Arrows on Tuesday evening, sealing three crucial points in Round 14 of the league campaign.

The decisive moment arrived in the 39th minute when left-back Aden McCarthy rose highest to power home a close-range header from a set-piece situation, giving the hosts a deserved first-half advantage. Chiefs dominated large spells of the opening period, creating a series of chances through Pule Mmodi, Makabi Lilepo and Flávio Silva, but were repeatedly denied by Arrows goalkeeper Thakasani Mbanjwa.

Golden Arrows emerged with renewed urgency after the break and came agonisingly close to an equaliser in the 71st minute when Siyanda Mthanti struck the upright during a swift counter-attack. Chiefs, however, remained organised at the back, with Inácio Miguel and Given Msimango anchoring the defence, while Brandon Petersen produced a calm and assured performance between the posts to preserve the clean sheet during a tense closing spell.

The hosts managed the latter stages professionally despite sustained pressure, seeing out seven minutes of stoppage time to secure back-to-back home victories and extend their unbeaten run. The result lifts Kaizer Chiefs to third on the log, closing the gap on the early pacesetters, while Lamontville Golden Arrows remain in the bottom half after a frustrating evening in Soweto.
