Mbekezeli Mbokazi: Bafana Breakout Star Secures Big MLS Switch
Chicago Fire have sealed the blockbuster R50 million signing of Orlando Pirates defender Mbekezeli Mbokazi, ending weeks of transfer speculation.
The 20-year-old Bafana Bafana centre-back joins the MLS club on a deal running until 2029, with an option for 2030.
Mbokazi leaves Pirates after a standout rise that saw him become vice-captain and a key figure in their defence.
He has also earned five international caps and helped South Africa qualify for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
Chicago Fire coach Gregg Berhalter says the youngster brings leadership, power and long-term potential.
