Chippa United Confirm Exit of Nigerian Goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali

Chippa United have confirmed the departure of Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali after the player formally requested to leave the club.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, 5 February 2026, the Port Elizabeth–based outfit revealed that Nwabali submitted a request to part ways following discussions about his future. After careful consideration, the club agreed to grant the experienced shot-stopper his release.

Nwabali joined the Chilli Boys in 2022 and went on to establish himself as a key member of the squad, earning widespread praise for his consistency, professionalism, and commitment both on and off the pitch. His performances between the posts played an important role in Chippa United’s campaigns in the South African top flight.

The club paid tribute to the Nigerian international, describing his contribution as significant and lasting. Chippa United highlighted Nwabali’s professionalism and dedication, noting that his impact would be fondly remembered by the technical team and supporters alike.

“We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club. His contribution to the club will always be appreciated,” the statement read.

Chippa United also wished the goalkeeper success in the next chapter of his career, adding that his future endeavours are expected to attract interest given his experience and pedigree.

Nwabali rose to continental prominence following his standout displays for the Nigeria Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where the team finished as runners-up.

His next destination has not yet been officially confirmed, while Chippa United are expected to begin plans to strengthen their goalkeeping department as they prepare for the remainder of the season.
