South Africa delivered a commanding performance in Gqeberha on Friday evening, cruising to a 5-0 victory over Congo in their 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Midfielder Teboho Mokoena was outstanding, scoring twice to inspire Bafana Bafana to a dominant Group K win at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.
Mokoena opened the scoring in the 12th minute with a powerful header before doubling his tally with a superb long-range strike later in the half. Bathusi Aubaas made it 3-0 before halftime, finishing off another fluid South African move that left Congo struggling to cope.
The home side maintained control after the break, with Lyle Foster adding a fourth in the 52nd minute. Substitute Iqraam Rayners completed the rout with a simple tap-in after a goalkeeping error to secure a statement win for Bafana Bafana.
The victory moves South Africa level on points with Uganda at the top of Group K, setting up a tight race for qualification as the campaign continues.
