Kaizer Chiefs vs Orlando Pirates: Soweto Giants Circle as Nwabali Exits Chippa United

Soweto Giants Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates Linked as Nwabali Leaves Chippa Unite

Chippa United have confirmed the departure of Nigerian goalkeeper Stanley Nwabali amid strong indications that the shot-stopper is headed to Soweto.

In a statement released on Wednesday, 5 February 2026, the Port Elizabeth–based club confirmed that Nwabali formally requested to leave following discussions regarding his future. After due consideration, management agreed to grant the experienced goalkeeper his release.

Nwabali joined the Chilli Boys in 2022 and quickly established himself as a central figure in the squad, earning plaudits for his consistency, professionalism and leadership. His commanding presence between the posts played a significant role in Chippa United’s campaigns in the South African top flight.

The club paid tribute to the Nigerian international, describing his contribution as both significant and enduring. Chippa United highlighted Nwabali’s commitment on and off the pitch, noting that his impact would be fondly remembered by the technical team and supporters.

“We would like to sincerely thank Stanley Nwabali for the years of service, commitment and professionalism he has shown during his time at Chippa United Football Club. His contribution to the club will always be appreciated,” the statement read.

Nwabali also rose to continental prominence following his standout performances for the Nigeria Super Eagles at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Côte d’Ivoire, where the West African giants finished as runners-up.

It is unclear what the goalkeeper’s next move will be, but he is free to immediately join any club as a free agent.

However, Nwabali has previously been linked with the Soweto giants, Kaizer Chiefs and Orlando Pirates.

While his next destination has not yet been officially confirmed, the Soweto-bound speculation is expected to intensify in the coming days. Chippa United, meanwhile, are set to begin plans to reinforce their goalkeeping department as they prepare for the remainder of the season.
