Hunt Praises Mabasa After Match-Winning Debut Goal for Stellies

Mabasa Delivers as Hunt Eyes Fitness Push for Lebusa, Kodisang

Stellenbosch FC coach Gavin Hunt praised the instant impact of new signing Tshegofatso Mabasa after his match-winning goal secured a 1–0 Betway Premiership victory over Sekhukhune United at Peter Mokaba Stadium on Tuesday night.

Mabasa, on loan from Orlando Pirates, struck in the first half to hand the Cape Winelands side a vital three points. While satisfied with the forward’s display, Hunt admitted there is immediate work to be done to get fellow newcomers Mosa Lebusa and Kobamelo Kodisang up to speed after their moves from Mamelodi Sundowns.

Hunt suggested the pair lacked full match fitness due to limited training time at their former club, adding that balancing CAF Confederation Cup commitments with league action will be key as he looks to sharpen his squad.

Despite the win, the experienced coach conceded that Stellenbosch were somewhat fortunate, feeling Sekhukhune United did enough to earn a share of the points as the match wore on. However, he stressed the importance of collecting points at this stage of the season, particularly with a run of continental fixtures looming.

Looking ahead, Hunt remains confident the team can improve and finish the campaign strongly, insisting that while there is quality in the squad, developing the right mentality will be crucial in the weeks ahead.
