Inspired Amajimbos Set Out for Qatar FIFA U17 World Cup Mission

The future of South African football looks radiant as the Amajimbos, South Africa’s Under-17 men’s national team, prepare to represent the nation at the FIFA U17 World Cup in Qatar from 3 to 27 November 2025.

Far from being mere participants, coach Vela Khumalo’s young charges have set their sights on making a serious impact at the global showpiece — determined to prove that South Africa’s next generation can compete with the world’s best.

The squad departed Johannesburg on Thursday afternoon following a spirited farewell breakfast hosted by the South African Football Association (SAFA). The event was attended by Gauteng Premier Panyaza Lesufi, SAFA President Dr Danny Jordaan, CEO Lydia Monyepao, NEC Member Job Mchunu, and members of the media, all united in rallying the nation’s support behind the promising side.

Captain Kamohelo Mareletse spoke confidently before departure, declaring that the team’s goal is not just participation but progression — beginning with their opening fixture against Bolivia on Monday. The young leader said the squad is inspired by Morocco’s recent triumph at the FIFA U-20 World Cup, where the North Africans stunned Argentina 2–0 to lift the trophy in Chile.

Premier Lesufi handed the players the South African flag, urging them to play with courage and pride.

“On behalf of the South African government, we wish you well — go there and make us proud. You have the ability, the talent, and the opportunity to inspire an entire nation,” said Lesufi.

Dr Danny Jordaan echoed the sentiment, calling on the youngsters to seize the moment:

“You have a big responsibility but also a huge opportunity. Go and enjoy yourselves, stay focused, stay disciplined, and seek glory for the country, for yourselves, and for the teams you represent.”

Coach Vela Khumalo expressed gratitude for the overwhelming support and confidence shown in the team:

“We thank everyone for the encouragement. Our mission is clear — to represent South Africa with pride and deliver performances that reflect the progress and potential of our youth.”

As the Amajimbos embark on their World Cup journey, optimism surrounds this vibrant generation — one that could soon form the backbone of Bafana Bafana’s future. With belief, structure, and talent on their side, South Africa’s young stars are ready to announce themselves on the global stage.
