Oswin Appollis has delivered one of the most impressive individual seasons in the Premier Soccer League, and since joining Orlando Pirates, his influence has only grown. The winger has already been involved in more than 10 goals this campaign while also shining for Bafana Bafana.
According to The South African, Appollis’ rise has been remarkable. The 24-year-old first made his mark at Polokwane City, which earned him a call-up to the national team. He featured in South Africa’s run to third place at AFCON 2024 and has since become a regular in Hugo Broos’ squad.
Although last season was inconsistent at club level, his performances for Bafana never wavered. During pre-season, he was strongly linked with Kaizer Chiefs, but in a twist that surprised many, he signed for their rivals Orlando Pirates.
A new level at Pirates
As highlighted by The South African, Appollis has been a revelation since arriving at Mayfair. With three goals and five assists already under his belt, he has emerged as one of the Buccaneers’ most influential players.
At Polokwane City, he often lacked the quality support around him, and opponents easily isolated him on the left side. His game appeared predictable and at times one-dimensional.
At Pirates, however, Appollis has shown far greater versatility—excelling on both flanks and even in the No.10 role. Playing alongside technically gifted teammates like Relebohile Mofokeng, Sipho Mbule and Tshepang Moremi has allowed him to flourish.
Shining for Bafana Bafana too
In national team colours, Appollis has been equally electric. The South African notes that he has scored three goals in his last three matches for Bafana, while consistently providing assists and incisive attacking play.
With the next AFCON only weeks away, Appollis is now an automatic starter for both club and country. Based on form, output and consistency, it is difficult to argue against The South African’s view that Oswin Appollis has been the PSL’s best performer since joining Orlando Pirates.
