Bafana Bafana ease past Zambia in friendly encounter

Bafana Bafana secured a confident 3-1 win over Zambia in an international friendly played at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Saturday.

The first half offered few chances for either side, but South Africa found the breakthrough moments before the interval when Oswin Appollis calmly finished after being picked out by a clever Sipho Mbule pass.

Early in the second half, Mbule – known as “The Master Chef” – produced another moment of quality, slipping the ball to substitute Mohau Nkota, who bent a superb effort beyond Toaster Nsabata just after the hour mark.

Nkota turned provider six minutes later, delivering an accurate corner that Sphephelo Sithole powered into the net to stretch the lead to 3-0.

Zambia pulled one back in stoppage time through Joseph Sabobo, who lifted the ball over Sipho Chaine, on for Ronwen Williams at the break.

Hugo Broos’ squad will now turn their attention to next month’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco as preparations intensify.
